Quarter-final matches under the Open Knockout Football Tournament 2026 held at Pakyong
Pakyong, August 11 (IPR): The ongoing Open Knockout Football Tournament 2026, organised as part of the celebrations marking the 80th Independence Day, continued with the quarter-final matches at St Xavier’s School Ground, Pakyong, today.
The tournament is being organised by Pakyong Sporting Club in collaboration with the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Pakyong.
Minister for Rural Development Department, Panchayati Raj Department and Cooperation Department, Mr Arun Kumar Upreti graced the event as the Chief Guest.
District Collector, Pakyong, Ms Pari Bishnoi; ADC Pakyong, Mr Pulkit; SDM Pakyong, Mr NK Bhandari; DFO (T), Mr SP Bhutia; Deputy Director, IEC, Mr Gyanendra Karki; RTO, Pakyong, Mr Durga Pd Sharma and BDO Pakyong, Mr Sangay Tamang were present as Guests of Honour.
In the third quarter-final match, HFA Makawanpur (Nepal) faced Forest Department, with Forest Department securing a 3-1 victory. Mr Phaguram Tharu of Forest Department was adjudged the Man of the Match for his performance.
The fourth quarter-final match saw Omisha Enterprise, Siliguri, take on Rangers, with Omisha Enterprise, Siliguri securing a 3-1 victory.
Mr Pradeep Lama of Omisha Enterprise, Siliguri, was adjudged the Man of the Match.
With the conclusion of the quarter-final matches, the winning teams have secured their places in the semi-finals.
In addition, a knockout-format tug-of-war competition among clubs, associations and local groups is also being organised as part of the tournament.
The programme also featured a skit and cultural performance by students of Damlakha Junior High School, along with a band display by the students of St Xavier’s School, Pakyong.
The event also had the presence of Zilla Adhyaksha, Pakyong District, Mrs Laden Lhamu Bhutia; President, Pakyong Nagar Panchayat, Mr Inchung Bhutia; DPO, PDZP, Mr Sonam Zangpo Bhutia; Deputy Registrars, Cooperation Department, Ms Ranjana Adhikari and Mr Bimal Rai and SHO Pakyong, Mr Pradeep Chettri.
