Press Report from Principal, Sikkim Government College, Rhenock
Soreng, August 11 (IPR): The 79th Independence Day celebrations continued at Jautar Ground, Soreng, with MLA and Advisor for the Skill Development and Transport Departments, Mr Madan Cinturi, gracing the occasion as the chief guest.
He was warmly welcomed with bouquets and garlands, along with the guest of honour, Mr Khagen Rai, OSD, Transport Department, and other distinguished guests.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the chief guest, guest of honour, and other dignitaries.
Thereby a token of love was presented to the chief guest and the guest of honour along with other esteemed guest by the Independence Day Celebration Committee.
Mr Madan Cintury, in his speech, acknowledged the celebration of the 79th Independence Day, remembering the country’s freedom fighters and the nationwide spirit of the occasion. He greeted and thanked the organising committee on behalf of the people of Zoom–Salghari, and extended best wishes whilst also thanking the District Collector (Chairman of the IDCC), officials from various departments, veterans, and the people of the vicinity.
He noted that Sikkim is perhaps the only state to celebrate Independence Day as a week-long festival. Following the Chief Minister’s direction to mark the event in a grand manner, he praised the patriotic performances by students, saying they reflected the pride of the country and people.
Mr Cintury also spoke about the recent Aama Samman Diwas, highlighting the respect shown to mothers. He acknowledged the state’s growth and the opportunities created by the government, urging the youth to make full use of them. He encouraged everyone to strive for unity and harmony to work towards building a new and better society.
On the occasion of Statehood, he suggested a new initiative to invite outstanding students as special guests to official programmes, believing this will help shape their future and contribute to the progress of the state and country. He concluded by thanking the entire gathering on behalf of the Government of Sikkim.
The programme featured a patriotic song by Ms. Sunita Darnal, followed by a patriotic dance by the Samdong–Sribadam GPU. This was succeeded by another patriotic dance presented by the Suldung–Kamling GPU. Students of Ramidham Primary School also showcased a Freedom Fighter-themed patriotic fancy dress and delivered inspiring slogans.
Earlier a welcome address was delivered by Assistant Director (F&CSD) Mr Dushyant Dhital whereby he welcomed the Chief Guest and the guest of honour including other esteemed guests in the event.
Also present in the event were District Collector Mr Dhiraj Subedi, ADC (I) Mr D R Bista, ADC (Development) Mr Gayas Pega, Fisheries (JD) Mr Lobsang Tamang, Retired Employees Association members, HOD’s of various line departments, distinguished guests and the staff of schools.
In conclusion a vote of thanks was conveyed by Ms Santa Sharma (AEO) Education Department by thanking the esteemed dignitaries.
