Gangtok,November 21:(IPR) Press Conference on Activities under State Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction organized by Social Justice & Welfare department was held at Conference hall of Palzor Stadium today.
Hon’ble Minister Social Justice & Welfare and Health Dr. M.K. Sharma who chaired the conference stated that the productive youths are indulged in drugs which has been a serious social problem in Sikkim and everyone have been running away from solutions. Therefore, he appealed the people, NGOs, media fraternity and individual to come together and combat such social problems through awareness and different activities. He also highlighted Action plan activities to be organized under Social Justice and Welfare department, Government of Sikkim :
1. Children’s Parliament on 25.11.19 on substance abuse amongst children and adolescent in the State.
2. Phoenix cup -a football tournament amongst the rehabilitation and detoxification centres in the State wef 28 to 3rd December.
3. Cultural activities by rehabilitation centres and special students.
4. Painting competition in the Districts to be organised by District Child Protection Unit on the same theme.

Earlier, Secretary Social Justice & Welfare department Smt. Dhan Jyoti Mukhia briefed on the activities under State Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction. She said that this is for the first time that mass campaign would be initiated by the department and appealed everyone’s participation.
