Political Parties Briefed on Preparations for General Municipality Election 2026 in Namchi

Namchi, March 24 (IPR): The District Election Officer-cum-Municipal Returning Officer (Namchi), Ms Anupa Tamling, chaired a meeting with representatives of various political parties at the District Administrative Centre, Namchi, today, in view of the forthcoming General Municipality Election 2026.
The meeting was attended by ADC (HQ) Mr Subash Ghimirey, ADC Namchi Ms Trisang Tamang, ASP Namchi Mr Bikash Tiwari, along with nodal officers associated with the election process and representatives of the political parties of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha ( SKM), Citizen Action Party ( CAP), Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) and Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP).
Addressing the gathering, the DEO/MRO apprised the representatives of the preparations undertaken in accordance with the directives of the State Election Commission, Sikkim, for the smooth conduct of the upcoming election in the district. She informed that polling will be conducted across 12 wards, with a total of 15 polling stations identified.
She further stated that two Sector Magistrates, along with Sector Police and concerned nodal officers, have been designated to ensure the efficient and orderly conduct of the election. The MRO urged all political parties to strictly adhere to the norms and guidelines laid down by the Commission and appealed for continuous coordination with the election authorities for any clarification.
The MRO also informed that the Election Observer for Namchi District, Mr Shailendra Sharma, PCE-cum-Secretary, PHE, will be stationed at the PWD Bungalow (Dak Bungalow), Namchi, and may be contacted at 9593376547 for addressing queries/ complaints.
During the meeting, ADC Namchi Ms Trisang Tamang briefed the representatives on the procedures for filing nominations, including the submission of nomination forms, candidature requirements, number of proposers, and requisite certificates for reserved categories.
She further informed that the nomination process is currently underway till 3.00 pm of March 30 (excluding public holidays), between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., at the office of the MRO.
ADC (HQ) Mr Subash Ghimirey elaborated on the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), emphasising the importance of maintaining law and order during the electoral process.
He also highlighted the imposition of Section 163 of BNSS, 2023 and stressed the necessity of obtaining prior permission from the concerned authorities at least 24 hours in advance for public meetings and election rallies in designated areas, to ensure a free, fair, and well-coordinated electoral process.
Similarly, ASP Namchi Mr Bikash Tiwari underscored that effective coordination between the administration, police, and political parties is vital for the successful conduct of a free and fair democratic exercise.
The nodal officers also briefed the participants on Home Voting and the certification of political advertisements by the District Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC).
Meanwhile, representatives of political parties raised various queries related to the election process, which were duly addressed and clarified by the MRO and the concerned officials.
