Plantation Drive and Passbook Distribution under “Rukh, Mero Santati” Held at Central Pendam
Pakyong, June 18 (IPR): A plantation drive and passbook distribution programme under the flagship initiative “Rukh, Mero Santati” was successfully conducted at Central Pendam today, with active participation from beneficiaries, local residents, and government officials.
The programme was graced by the Area MLA West Pendam and Advisor to the Departments of Land Revenue & Disaster Management and Information Technology, Mr LB Das, as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest underscored the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable development through community participation. He highlighted the significance of the “Rukh, Mero Santati” initiative launched by the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang, under which 108 saplings are planted to commemorate the birth of a child.
He stated that tree plantation plays a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance, strengthening climate resilience, and securing a greener future for generations to come. Stressing the importance of collective responsibility, he urged beneficiaries and residents to nurture the saplings with care to ensure their healthy growth and long-term survival.
As a symbolic gesture of commitment towards environmental protection, Mr LB Das planted a sapling alongside beneficiaries, reaffirming the shared responsibility of preserving and nurturing nature.
The programme was attended by Zilla Panchayat Member, Central Pendam; Panchayat President, Central Pendam GPU; Karmithang Ward Panchayat; Khani Ward Panchayat; Additional Director, State Forest Service; Divisional Forest Officer (Territorial), Pakyong; Assistant Conservator of Forests (Territorial), Rangpo; Block Development Officer Duga; Range Officer, Rangpo; Assistant Director, Education, Duga BAC, along with officers and staff of the Forest Department and members of the local community.
During the programme, passbooks were distributed to beneficiaries under the “Rukh, Mero Santati” initiative, further reinforcing the Government’s commitment to environmental stewardship, afforestation, and community engagement.
