Panel discusses ‘Why Urban Sikkim (Gangtok) is voting less’ at Sikkim Book Fair 2024
Gangtok, March 19(IPR): A panel discussion was conducted at Sikkim Book Fair 2024, organised by 24-hour inspired and National Book Trust in collaboration with District Administration Centre,
Gangtok in MG Marg, today.The panel discussion had the presence of Mr Tushar Nikhare, District Election Officer-cum- District Magistrate, Gangtok, Mr Abhijeet Patil, Assistant Collector, Gangtok, teachers from different schools as panelists, namely Mr SK Sarda, Mr Adiud Subba, Ms Smriti Pradhan, and Ms Sophia Parveen Ansari. The event was witnessed by the public at large.
The three day book fair 2024 is organised to inculcate reading habits amongst the younger generation, and to press for reading to be a part of the curriculum for students.
The panel discussion on ‘Why is Urban Sikkim (Gangtok) voting less?’ was an initiative taken by DAC, Gangtok
The panelists briefly discussed the significance of voting, agreeing in unison that everyone has the right to vote. They appealed the general public to come out and vote in order to exercise their democratic right.
The panelists further briefed on how voting can contribute to the development of society, ensuring justice and equality.
They further discussed about the addition of KYC (Know Your Candidate) Application launched by the Election Commission of India enabling voters to check the criminal records of candidates standing for elections. This app aims to promote transparency in the electoral process, ensuring that voters have access to crucial information about the candidates, it was informed.
