Pakyong District Prepares for National-Level 212th Bhanu Jayanti Celebration

Pakyong, June 16 (IPR): A preparatory meeting for the upcoming 212th Bhanu Jayanti Celebration 2026 (National Level), scheduled to be held at Soreng, was chaired by Zilla Adhyaksha, Pakyong District, Mrs Laden Lamu Bhutia, in the presence of District Collector, Pakyong, Ms Pari Bishnoi, and Senior Superintendent of Police, Pakyong, Ms Paru Ruchal, at the Conference Hall of the District Administrative Centre, Pakyong, today.
The meeting focused on coordinating preparations for the National Level Bhanu Jayanti celebration 2026 and deliberating on the arrangements required for the conduct of constituency-level and district-level Ramayan Recitation competitions leading to the selection of the district's representative group.
During the meeting, Zilla Adhyaksha, Mrs Laden Lamu Bhutia, highlighted the significance of Bhanu Jayanti as an occasion to celebrate and promote Nepali language and culture. She urged all the participants to actively participate and contribute to the success of the event.
Further, District Collector Ms Pari Bishnoi emphasised the need for extensive awareness and publicity of the competition, including dissemination of information on registration procedures, terms and conditions and other requirements. She stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among all stakeholders to ensure the smooth conduct of the constituency-level and district-level competitions.
In his address, Additional Political Secretary to Chief Minister, Pakyong District, Mr Bishal Sharma, briefed the house on the preparations for the National-Level Bhanu Jayanti celebration. He informed that each district is required to nominate one Ramayan Recitation group to participate in the national-level event.
To facilitate the selection process, preliminary Ramayan Path competitions will be organised across the five Constituencies of Pakyong District, from which one group will be selected from each constituency.
The five selected groups will subsequently participate in a district-level competition, and the winning group will represent Pakyong District on 9th July at Soreng. Thereafter, the selected group will perform during the main celebration on July 13.
APS, Pakyong further informed the house about the need to constitute district-level and constituency-level committees for the smooth conduct of the competition. He outlined the roles and responsibilities of the committees and briefed the members on the terms and conditions for the competition.
It was informed that the competition will be open for participation to all individuals with no restrictions based on age or gender. Students from schools and colleges as well as members of the public will be eligible to participate.
The participants will be required to present recitations from either the ‘Sundara Kanda’ or ‘Yuddha Kanda’ of Bhanubhakta Ramayan.
The competition will be conducted as per the following rules and guidelines:
• The time limit for each Ramayan recitation presentation will be 5 minutes. Marks will be deducted for exceeding the allotted time.
• Each team will be provided 2 minutes to arrange musical instruments and prepare before the presentation.
• Participants must wear traditional attire during the performance.
• Participants are required to appear in traditional attire for the presentation.
• Before commencing their performance, participants must inform the judging panel about the selected section/chapter (Shloka/Adhyaya) of the Ramayan.
• Each participating team must consist of 10 members.
• From each district, one best-performing team will be selected to participate at the next level.
The competition carries cash prizes, with the first prize of Rs 100,000 second prize of Rs 80,000 and third prize of Rs 60,000.
The performances will be assessed on various parameters, including stage presentation, literary quality and creativity, rhythm/tune/voice, confidence and costume and discipline, with a total score of 100 marks.
The meeting also deliberated on logistical and administrative arrangements, including venue, transportation, refreshments, publicity, judging arrangements, expenditure, and the competition schedule.
Suggestions and concerns raised by the members regarding various aspects of the competition and related arrangements were discussed in detail during the meeting.
During the meeting, the District-Level Committee for the conduct of the competition was constituted. It was also decided that the district-level Ramayan Path competition will be held at the Community Hall, Pakyong, on June 29. The schedule for the constituency-level competitions and related preparatory activities was also discussed.
