Pakyong District Police and SMIT Join Forces for the State-Level Hackathon

Pakyong, 11 September (IPR): Pakyong District Police is set to organise a State-Level Hackathon contest in collaboration with Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) in an effort aimed at raising awareness about Cyber Security and fostering the development of innovative Smart Policing Solutions.
This initiative is a significant step forward in engaging the local community in Sikkim, particularly among the youth who possess a keen interest in technology and its applications within law enforcement and public safety.
To ensure the success of this innovative contest, a team led by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pakyong, Mr Karma Gyamsto Bhutia, conducted a thorough inspection of the SMIT venue along with a meeting with the officials of the institute located in Rangpo.
The primary goal of this initiative by the Sikkim Police is to illuminate and nurture the local talents that Sikkim has to offer in the specialised fields of ethical hacking and cyber security. By bringing local talents together under one roof, the contest aims not only to showcase their expertise but also to encourage collaboration and networking among participants.
This initiative reflects a forward-thinking approach, recognising the potential of the youth in Sikkim to contribute significantly to the field of cyber security, which has become increasingly important in today’s digital age.
Furthermore, the Hackathon is designed to be more than just a competition; it is envisioned as a collaborative platform for participants to engage in problem-solving activities that address real-world challenges faced by law enforcement agencies.
The contest will inspire participants to develop innovative software applications specifically aimed at tackling day-to-day issues encountered by the police.
These challenges include pressing issues such as Cyber Crime, Traffic Management, and Drug Abuse, all of which have significant implications for public safety and community well-being.
