Pakyong District Holds Meeting for Finalisation of Polling Station Rationalisation

Pakyong, June 22 (IPR): A meeting for the final confirmation of the rationalisation of polling stations in Pakyong District was convened at the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Pakyong, today, in the presence of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) cum Additional District Collector (HQ), Mr Sabindra Rai and ERO-cum-Sub-Divisional Magistrate (HQ), Mr Thendup Lepcha and representatives from various political parties and concerned officials.
During the meeting, ERO cum ADC (HQ), Mr Sabindra Rai briefed the gathering on the criteria and guidelines prescribed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the rationalisation of polling stations. He also highlighted the progress achieved under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls since its commencement and stated that one of the meeting's primary objectives was to discuss and finalise the rationalisation of polling stations across the district.
The ERO informed the participants about the final list of polling stations identified for rationalisation. He also emphasised the importance of timely digitisation of Enumeration Forms and further sought the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure the completion of the process within the stipulated timeframe.
Furthermore, ERO cum SDM (HQ), Mr Thendup Lepcha highlighted issues related to voter mapping that have been identified during the revision process. He urged the representatives from political parties and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to extend support in identifying individuals whose mapping and verification are still pending, thereby ensuring the accuracy of the electoral roll.
In accordance with the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the District Election Officer, Pakyong, has notified the revised list of newly created polling stations for four Assembly Constituencies comprising two polling stations for 18-West Pendam; one polling station for 20-Chujachen, one polling station for 21-Gnathang-Machong and one polling station for 22-Namcheybung.
It is to be mentioned that the revised polling station arrangements have been approved by the Election Commission of India to facilitate the smooth and accessible conduct of elections.
The meeting was also attended by AERO cum BDO Regu, Mr Anil Giri; AERO cum BDO Duga, Mr Chophel Bhutia; AERO cum BDO Namcheybong, Mr Rajesh Dahal; Under Secretary, Election Department, Mr Raghunath Chettri; along with representatives of various political parties.
