Pakyong Administration Reviews LPG Shortage, Measures Discussed to Ensure Smooth Supply
Pakyong, June 05 (IPR): A meeting regarding the insufficient supply of domestic LPG cylinders and other related issues was chaired by ADC (Development), Mr Sangay Gyatso Bhutia in the presence of ADC Pakyong, Mr Pulkit, at the District Administrative Centre, Pakyong, today.
The meeting was attended by APS to HCM, Mr Bishal Sharma; SDM Rangpo, Ms Sujata Subba; SDM Rongli, Mr SK Pradhan; DCSO Pakyong, Mr Bhim Pradhan; CA to HCM, Mr Urgen Lepcha; proprietors and representatives of LPG distributorships operating in the district, along with Panchayat members from various Gram Panchayat Units (GPUs), who joined the meeting through video conferencing.
During the meeting, LPG distributors apprised the house of the current stock position, supply status, and demand for domestic LPG cylinders. They also highlighted various operational challenges being faced while assuring that cylinder distribution is being carried out on a priority basis to ensure uninterrupted supply to consumers across the district.
Representatives from various GPUs shared concerns and grievances faced by residents at the grassroots level, particularly regarding the availability and distribution of LPG cylinders.
Addressing the gathering, ADC Pakyong, Mr Pulkit, stressed the importance of resolving supply-related issues through proper coordination and management. He suggested maintaining records and issuing dated passbooks or tokens, especially during large gatherings, social functions and funerals, to facilitate orderly distribution. He further proposed the deployment of police personnel at distribution points to maintain order.
ADC (Development), Mr Sangay Gyatso Bhutia, emphasised the role of Panchayats in strengthening coordination between distributors and the public and suggested empowering Panchayats to act as a link between LPG distributors and consumers to ensure smooth distribution, particularly during times of supply constraints.
It was further decided during the meeting that Panchayats would maintain updated records of all households and their designated LPG distributors to ensure that resources are provided to each beneficiary. Emphasis was also laid on the usage of alternative electronic appliances wherever feasible to conserve resources.
It was mentioned that LPG cylinder distribution would be carried out only at designated distribution centres and not from godowns. Additionally, the house was informed that no instances of black marketing had been detected and that strict action, including penalties, would be imposed against anyone found engaging in such practices.
In regard to any complaints of underfilled cylinders, it was clarified that such cases are generally manufacturing-related issues and the defective cylinders can be returned to the supplier for replacement.
Furthermore, it was also informed that a meeting with the concerned LPG company authorities would be convened shortly to strengthen the supply mechanism and address the prevailing issues at the earliest.
It is to be mentioned that a control room has been established at the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), DAC Pakyong, to address queries or issues related to essential supplies. The contact number for the same is 03592-200024.
