PIB Media Delegation Visits South Regu to Witness Large Cardamom Cultivation in Sikkim
Pakyong, September 16th (IPR): A media delegation from the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Himachal Pradesh, visited South Regu village in Pakyong District today as part of its field visit to gain first-hand insight into Sikkim’s agricultural practices, with a special focus on the cultivation and production of large cardamom.
During the visit, Senior Scientist, Spices Board, Dr Tikendra Deka, provided a detailed briefing on large cardamom cultivation and production in Sikkim. He apprised the delegation of the crop’s cultivation practices and its significance to the State’s agricultural landscape.
The delegation also interacted with large cardamom cultivators and Panchayat members, gaining insights into farmers' experiences, prevailing cultivation practices, and grassroots-level challenges.
The field interaction provided the visiting media delegation an opportunity to understand the role of large cardamom cultivation in supporting the rural economy and livelihoods of farming communities in Sikkim.
The visit also highlighted the importance of documenting and showcasing successful agricultural practices and farming communities' experiences through media outreach, thereby giving wider visibility to Sikkim’s distinctive agricultural produce and grassroots development initiatives.
