Open Knockout Football Tournament 2026 Enters Second Semi-Final at Pakyong
Pakyong, August 13 (IPR): The Open Knockout Football Tournament 2026, being held as part of the celebrations for the 80th Independence Day, witnessed the second semi-final at St. Xavier’s School Ground, Pakyong, today.
The tournament was being conducted by Pakyong Sporting Club in collaboration with the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Pakyong.
MLA, Gnathang Machong Constituency cum Advisor, Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department, Ms Pamin Lepcha, attended the event as the Chief Guest.
Chairman, Commerce & Industries Department, Ms Nim Chiki Sherpa; Municipal President, Pakyong , Mr Inchung Bhutia; DFO (T), Mr SP Bhutia; MEO, Pakyong, Ms Sanju Pradhan; along with Pakyong Nagar Panchayats, were present as Guests of Honour.
The sporting activities commenced with a Women’s Exhibition Match between Gnathang Machong and Namcheybung, with Gnathang-Machong emerging victorious by a scoreline of 2–0. This was followed by an Inter-Constituency Girls’ Match between Rhenock and Gnathang-Machong, with Rhenock emerging victorious through a penalty shootout. Srijana Gurung of Rhenock was adjudged the Player of the Match.
In the second semi-final, Pakyong, Forest Department faced Omisha Enterprise, Siliguri, with Omisha Enterprise securing a 3–1 victory to book their place in the tournament final. Hem Raj Bhujel was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
The programme also featured a patriotic dance presented by Ganchung Junior High School and a Rai dance presented by Pachak Secondary School.
As part of the tournament, a tug-of-war match was also held between Linkey Boys and Mixed Up Boys.
The event was also attended by SDPO, Pakyong, Mr Bikash Rai; Joint Director, Education Department, Ms Poonam Pradhan; OSD to MLA of Namcheybung, Mr Hari Rizal, and BDO Pakyong, Mr Sangay Tamang.
