One-Week National Workshop on Tour Guiding and Tour Operations Begins at SGC Rhenock

Pakyong, February 10 (IPR): A one-week National Workshop on Tour Guiding and Tour Operations was formally inaugurated today at Sikkim Government College (SGC), Rhenock, marking a step towards capacity building and skill development in the tourism sector.
The workshop is being organised by the Research Cell of SGC Rhenock with financial support from the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). The primary objective of the programme is to enhance professional competencies, create awareness of career prospects, and equip youth with practical knowledge and skills required in the rapidly growing tourism industry.
The inaugural programme was graced by the presence of OSD to MLA Rhenock, Mr DB Chettri; OSD, IT Department, Mr Bum Tshering Yonzon, and CA to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Mr Urgen Lepcha.
Addressing the gathering, OSD to MLA Rhenock, Mr DB Chettri, spoke at length on the various initiatives, schemes, and development projects undertaken by the Government of Sikkim under the leadership of  Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang. He emphasised the consistent growth, diversification, and strengthening of the tourism sector in the State, encouraging students to actively explore careers and entrepreneurial ventures in tourism.
The technical sessions of the workshop are being conducted by the Resource Person, Deputy Director (IQP/CAV/IT), Tourism Department, Mr Prashant Pakhrin. The workshop focuses on providing an overview of Sikkim’s tourism sector, with emphasis on government policies, schemes, incentives, and best practices for promoting sustainable tourism and entrepreneurship.
During the programme, Convener of the workshop, Dr Chhunu Giri presented a detailed outline of the week-long programme, highlighting the structure of the sessions and the learning outcomes expected from the workshop.
Likewise, Principal, Sikkim Government College Rhenock, Dr. Shobha Sharma (Basistha) underscored the initiative’s relevance in preparing students to meet future challenges and opportunities in the tourism and hospitality sector.
Also present were faculty members, local dignitaries and students.
