17th December 2019, Gangtok (IPR): One day workshop on ” Livestock and Poultry Management and Production” was held at Training Centre, Sokeythang, Gangtok organised by Department of Animal Husbandary and Veterinary Services.

Mr. S. B Subba, Secretary of AH&VS was the chief guest along with Dr. Sangay Dorjee Bhutia, Director(Piggery) Dr D. K Pradhan, Director (Poultry), member of self help groups, officials and staff of AH&VS.
Dr Anju Nayak, Dr S. Nagar, Dr P. P Soni were the guest from outside State.

The Chief Guest in his address said that it is for the first time in the Government of Sikkim to witness the Galaxy of scholars and scientist who participated in one day workshop. He thanked the resource person who had come so far to share their rich knowledge and experiences with their aligned activities and urged all the concerned people to extract maximum benefit from the resource person of various strategies, management, dynamics of supply and demand, quality of productivity, stability of rates in the products and bi products.

Resource person of the workshop were:

1. Prof. Dr. P. K. Shukla, Registrar & Dean ( PGS), Head, Department of Poultry Science, DUVASU Mathura,UP.
He showcased the present scenario of Poultry in India at Global and Indian perspective. He highlighted that India ranks 5th in chicken meat production having only 3.3% share of production & exports are negligible at only about 5.5 thousand tones. He also shared that India stands at 3rd position in egg production, only has about 6.3% share in global production where exports are again negligible with about less than billion egg. Similarly he shared about Indian Poultry sectors in figures, about the value added products, AI Surveillance in India, control and containment of Avian influenza in India etc.

2. Dr. Sunil Nayak Director Extension, NDVSU & Prof & Head Department of Animal Nutrition Co. V. Sc & AH Jabalpur (MP).
He highlighted the scientific feeding of poultry for different physical functions according to the nutrients requirement. He shared about nutritional classification and the performance goals and efficiency parameters.

3. Dr. Jitendra Verma Regional Manager South Central Asia (SCA).
He shared about the marketing, opportunities and challenges facing and how State can benefit from poultry as population is growing it is necessary that there should be an increase in production too. He focused on food(poultry) industry where we stand globally and the how much poultry sectors contributes nearly around 0.5% to the national GDP and 10% to the total Livestock GDP and gave a motivational speech to all present there.

4. Dr Anju Nayak, Associate Prof. & Head Department of veterinary Microbiology, College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Jabalpur.
She shared about the poultry disease and diagnosis.

Later there was an interaction session and the Memento were presented to the resource person by S. B. Subba and Dr. D. K Pradhan.
