North East NSS Festival 2024 kicks off in Sikkim

Gangtok, July 16 (IPR): The North East National Service Scheme( NSS) Festival was inaugurated by Mr Raju Basnett, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Department-cum-Area MLA Namcheybong Constituency, at Manan Kendra, Gangtok, today.
The five-day long North East NSS Festival 2024 spanning from July 16, 2024 to July 19, 2024, aims to celebrate the diversity and richness of northeastern culture. It also aims to serve as a platform for promoting harmony, brotherhood, and sisterhood among the states, fostering a sense of belonging and unity across the region. The event was organized by Sikkim State NSS Cell Department of Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sikkim in collaboration with Ministry of Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
The Minister was accompanied by Mr Janjilong, Regional Director NSS, Ms Yogeeta Rai Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs (S&YA) Department, Mr RB Bishwakarma Addtl Director-S&YA, Mr Jigmee Y Lepcha Joint Director-S&YA, Ms Laleeta Chettri Deputy Director-S&YA-cum-State Nodal Officer NSS (Sikkim) and Officers from S&YA department. The inaugural event also saw participation of 300 individuals from various North Eastern states.
Mr Raju Basnett in his address, welcomed the participants from the North Eastern States to Sikkim. He said the event will hopefully give the youth an opportunity to learn, make friends and enjoy their stay in Sikkim.
The Minister applauded the contributions of youth during the Covid-19 pandemic. He expressed hope that the same degree of effort could be applied to fight the menace of drug abuse in Sikkim. He also hoped that the North Eastern states take the fight against drug abuse seriously in all their endeavours.
Further, the Minister urged the participants to explore myriad of opportunities such as the UPSC examinations which will make an inedible mark in the history of the State and the Country.
He concluded his address by giving his best wishes to the participants for their stay on Sikkim and wished everyone the best for their future endeavours.
Thereafter, the Minister declared the North NSS Festival 2024 open to all the participants.
Miss Yogeeta Rai Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Department, in her brief address hoped that the youth will grow together through his festival of cultural exchange. She hoped that the festival in Sikkim will give the participants an opportunity to learn crucial skills and acquire knowledge about other cultures.
Mr Janjilong, Regional Director-NSS, hoped that the five-day long festival will be fully utilised by the participants to learn about the culture of North Eastern states. He hoped that they will develop confidence to face the challenges in this world. Furthermore, he motivated the participants to break the language and culture barrier to reach out to friends from other North Eastern states.
Mr Anjan Chowdhary, Founder-Skillfinity, extended his heartfelt gratitude to Government of Sikkim for the invitation. He spoke about various topics pertaining to Life Skill Training and Career Counselling to the participants.
