Nikon India Organises Photography and Videography Competition and Workshop in Sikkim
Gangtok, August 19 (IPR): Nikon India, in association with the Information and Public Relations Department, Government of Sikkim, Sikkim Art, Culture & Heritage Development Board, Khangxer Picture Company and Photography Club of Sikkim, organised a Photography and Videography Competition and Workshop at SPRC, Deorali, today, with MLA-cum-Advisor, Food and Civil Supplies Department and Urban Development Department, Mr Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, as the Chief Guest and Additional Political Secretary to HCM, Mr Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha, as the Guest of Honour.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Mr Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, congratulated the winners, runners-up and participants and appreciated the initiative for providing a platform for local photographers and videographers to showcase Sikkim’s cultural, natural and social heritage through visual storytelling. He encouraged young talents to continue nurturing their creativity by participating in such platforms.
Similarly, Mr Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha congratulated the organisers and participants and highlighted the role of photography and videography in documenting Sikkim’s heritage, traditions, natural beauty and everyday life. He encouraged young and emerging creators to make the most of such opportunities.
Chairman, Sikkim Art, Culture & Heritage Board, Mr Sanjay Dilpali Rai, appreciated the initiative and emphasised the importance of visual documentation in preserving Sikkim’s diverse cultural heritage for future generations.
Secretary, IPR Department, Ms Annapurna Alley, described the competition as a significant initiative, being organised at this level for the first time, bringing photography and videography enthusiasts together on a common platform. She appreciated the overwhelming response to the initiative and expressed hope that it would provide greater opportunities for local creative talent, encourage wider participation and help emerging artists showcase their skills on broader platforms.
The award ceremony followed, with winners and runners-up felicitated across four categories. In the Culture of Sikkim category, Mr Zigme Bhutia was adjudged winner and Mr Pokhraj Rai runner-up. In Nature, Mr Pokhraj Rai secured the winner’s award, while Mr Sunil Pradhan was runner-up. In Wedding, Mr Kusong Limboo emerged winner and Mr Kunal Gurung runner-up. In the Video category, Mr Narmad Rai was declared winner, while Mr Benzamin Rasaily secured the runner-up position.
Mr Yongden Sherpa was declared the Grand Winner across all categories.
A creator talk show featuring Naturalist Photographer Mr Kallol Mukherjee, Travel and Documentary Photographer Ms Tania Chatterjee, Independent Filmmaker Mr Abhishek Nandi and Visual Arts Educator Mr Karma Tempo and Creative Director Mr Aaditya Cintury was conducted by the Nikon India team and hosted by Technical Manager, Nikon, Mr Soumyajit Maitra.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Director, Information and Public Relations Department, Mr Sunil Mothey.
