National Sports Day event in Mangan begins with One Mile Run
Mangan, August 29 (IPR):
Sports & Youth Affairs department in collaboration with Khelo India began the celebration of the birth anniversary of Hockey Legend Major Dhyan Chand, observed as National Sports Day, by conducting Chief Minister’s One Mile Run (Marathon) at DAC, Mangan, today.
The event was attended by CEO (Education Department) Mr David G Lingdong as the chief guest, along with Joint Director (Department of Sports and Youth Affairs) Ms Janim Lepcha, Deputy Director (Department of Sports and Youth Affairs), Mr Dathup Lepcha and staff from organising department.
The Chief Minister’s One Mile Run was flagged off by CEO Education Mr David G Lingdong. The Run covered the route from DAC Mangan to the PWD office complex and back.
Joint Director Ms Janim Lepcha, in her introductory address, urged the youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle by engaging in regular physical activity, maintaining a balanced diet and focusing on overall fitness, highlighting the benefits for both physical and mental well-being.
The schools that participated in the event included PM Shri Mangan Senior Secondary School, Government Junior High School Pakshep, Little Flower Junior High School, Ringhim Secondary School, North Sikkim Academy and PM Shri Mangan Girls Senior Secondary School.
Later, certificates were distributed to the winners.
It is also worth mentioning that the North Sikkim Taekwondo team participated in the Asmita Khelo India League 2025 in Gangtok, winning 5 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 5 bronze medals and securing the 1st Runner-Up Trophy. Additionally, four students from Mangan District will be representing at the national level on 29th August.
The District Level National Sports Day event will continue at PM Shri Mangan Senior Secondary School, with a series of sporting activities lined up for the day.
