Namchi Observes National Sports Day 2025
Namchi, August 29 (IPR): Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, in collaboration with SAI-STC Namchi and Khelo India Centre (KIC) Namchi celebrates District Level National Sports Day 2025 at Namchi Bhaichung Stadium, today.
The programme was attended by Mr Basant Yonzone Tamang, Chairman Sikkim Youth Development Board (SYDB), as the Chief Guest, while Mr Saran Kalikotey, SDM Namchi and Mr Sonam Wangchuk Bhutia Deputy Director Education Department Namchi were present as the Special Guest.
The celebration commenced with a tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, fondly remembered as India’s “hockey wizard” for his unmatched skill and achievements, including three Olympic gold medals in 1928, 1932, and 1936.
Following the occasion, participants also took the National Sports Day Pledge.
The day featured a series of activities and competitions including Yoga, Archery (Boys & Girls), Passing the Ball (Women), 50-metre Sprint (Boys & Girls) and cultural performances.
A football match under Khelo India Centre for Girls was played between KIC Namchi (Girls) and PM Shri Girls Sr Sec School, KIC Namchi emerged victorious with 3-0 Score.
In the Under-15 Boys category, SAI-STC Namchi defeated Namchi Sports Hostel in a penalty shootout.
As part of the occasion, six emerging athletes and several coaches from different sports disciplines were felicitated for their achievements and contributions.
