Namchi Marks Sacred Commencement of Tendong Lho Rum Faat with Traditional Lepcha Rituals
Namchi, 7 August (IPR) : The traditional pre-Tendong Lho Rum Faat rituals were observed today at Central Park, Namchi. The sacred ceremony was organised by the Lepcha Association and conducted by Bongthings (Shamans) from Namchi and Kalimpong in accordance with time-honoured Lepcha customs.
Minister for Urban Development Department Mr Bhojraj Rai graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and was accompanied by Area MLA of 11-Namchi Singithang Constituency Mr Satish Chandra Rai.
The ceremony was attended by District Collector Ms Anupa Tamling, SSP Namchi Ms Sonam D Bhutia, OSD to MLA Mr S J Lepcha, MEO Mr Yogen Syangden, RMRT President Mr Tempo Tshering Lepcha, along with RMRT members and residents of Namchi.
The observance marks the commencement of the Tendong Lho Rum Faat celebrations, one of the most revered festivals of the Lepcha community. Rooted in profound spiritual beliefs, the rituals symbolise the community’s enduring connection with nature and their rich cultural heritage, while reaffirming the importance of preserving Sikkim’s indigenous traditions and customs for future generations.
It’s maybe mentioned here that the Bongthings and members of the Lepcha community will trek to Tendong Hill later today in preparation for tomorrow's main observance of Tendong Lho Rumfaat.
