Namchi Hosts Export Training Programme to Empower Aspiring Entrepreneurs

Namchi, 12 March (IPR): A day-long handholding training programme on export procedures, documentation, operations and logistics for prospective entrepreneurs of Sikkim was organised today at the Officers’ Club, Namchi.
The programme was organised by the Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Sikkim in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), Kolkata, Government of India, with the objective of enhancing awareness and capacity among entrepreneurs on international trade practices.
Dr K Rangarajan, Professor and Centre Head, IIFT Kolkata, conducted training sessions focusing on the export scenario of the respective districts based on products and prospects, along with detailed guidance on export documentation.
During his sessions, he elaborated on the export potential of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and emphasised the importance of Export Facilitation Centres. Providing an overview of global trade dynamics, he discussed policies, instruments and key factors involved in export procedures.
He also highlighted the significance of obtaining an Import Export Code (IEC), explaining the documentation requirements for product shipments and international business contracts, and underscored the role of the Certificate of Origin in international trade.
Further sessions on export procedures, including a step-by-step guide, and identifying suitable products and foreign markets for export were facilitated by Ms Sumana Das, Research Consultant, IIFT.
During her presentation, Ms Das elaborated on registration requirements as well as export and pre-shipment procedures. She also provided insights into the role and importance of Export Facilitation Centres (EFCs). In addition, she briefed participants on e-commerce models and highlighted various modes and channels available for exporting goods and products. She further explained the processing of export orders and shared information regarding the Export Assistance Cell on the Sikkim portal.
Also present on the occasion were General Manager (C&ID) Mr Dinesh Pradhan, Inspector and Export Coordinator (C&ID)Ms Suvarna Mukhia, along with staff members of the department and participating entrepreneurs.
