Namchi Hosts District Level Youth Festival for 29th National Youth Festival 2026
Namchi, November 27 (IPR): As part of the forthcoming 29th National Youth Festival 2026, a District Level Youth Festival was held at the Indoor Stadium in Namchi, today.
The event was organised by Sports & Youth Affairs Department in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.
The programme was graced by Mr Suraj Rai, CEO Namchi, who attended as the Chief Guest.
The festival featured District Level Selection Trials for the 29th National Youth Festival 2026 across several competitive categories, including Group Folk Dance, Group Folk Song, Painting Competition, Declamation Speech Competition and Poetry Writing Competition.
In the Group Folk Song category, PM SHRI Namchi Senior Secondary School secured the first position.
In Declamation, the results were as follows:
1st: Aman Agrawal (Jorethang )
2nd: Pratik Adhikari (N.S.S.S)
3rd: Roshni Rai (N.G.S.S.S)
In the Painting competition:
1st: Pratik Rai (N.S.S.S)
2nd: Eliel Rai (N.G.S.S.S)
3rd: Sonam Lepcha (N.S.S.S)
Group Folk Dance category:
1st Dhime Newari Dance
In Poetry Writing:
1st: Prateek Adhikari (N.S.S.S)
2nd: Joyce Tamang (N.G.S.S.S)
3rd: Simera Rai (N.G.S.S.S)
The competitions were evaluated by a panel of judges:
Painting: Roshan Rai and Sanjeet Rai
Poetry / Declamation: James Rai, Bal Krishna Sapkota and Deepenti Thengh
Group Folk Dance: Bidhya Chettri
Group Folk Song: Vivek Basnet
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates to all participating youths, recognising their talent and encouraging their active engagement in cultural and literary activities.
It may be mentioned that the winners from today’s district-level competition will represent Namchi district in the State Level Selection Trial to be held in Gangtok, for the final selection of participants for the 29th National Youth Festival 2026 scheduled to be held in January in New Delhi.
Also present during the programme were Mr. Basant Pradhan, Deputy Director S&YAD Namchi, Mr Bhupendra Kumar Chettri Assistant Director S&YAD Namchi, Mrs Nim Choden Bhutia Assistant Director S&YAD Namchi, Mrs Shoba Gurung Assistant Director S&YAD Namchi, staff, along with judges, teachers, participants and students.
