Namchi Gears Up for Municipality and Nagar Panchayat Elections 2026

Namchi, March 17 (IPR): A preliminary meeting for the upcoming Municipality and Nagar Panchayat Elections 2026, for Namchi Municipal Council (NMC) and Naya Bazar Jorethang Nagar Panchayat (NJNP), under Namchi District, was convened at the chamber of the District Collector, District Administrative Centre, today.
The meeting was chaired by the DC-cum-District Election Officer (Namchi), Ms Anupa Tamling, along with the presence of SSP (Namchi) Ms Sonam Doma Bhutia, ADC HQ (Namchi) Mr Subash Ghimiray, ADC (Namchi) Ms Trisang Tamang, Deputy Secretary (Election Cell) Ms Bhumika Chettri and Nodal Officers of the district.
During the meeting, DEO (Namchi) Ms Anupa Tamling informed that with the upcoming Municipal and Nagar Panchayat elections approaching, a total of 12 wards (7wards under NMC and 5 wards under NJNP), within the district are scheduled for polls. Further stating that a total of 12,663 voters are registered and expected to take part in the electoral process.
She further mentioned that the strong rooms shall be stationed at the Old District Hospital, and advised that all regulatory requirements for the election are strictly observed. The DEO further directed the assigned nodal officials to maintain a state of readiness and advised them that all necessary preparations are coordinated in a time-bound manner, ensuring smooth and peaceful elections.
Additionally, the identification of critical and vulnerable polling stations, along with discussions on voter concentration, feasibility, security aspects, and other factors that may impact the voting process, were also discussed. Furthermore, the nodal officers also deliberated  on logistics, manpower deployment, law and order arrangements, and other essential preparations for the election.
