NIC Organises Safer Internet Day Awareness Programme at Mangan
Mangan, February 10 (IPR): National Informatics Centre (NIC) Mangan organised an awareness programme on the occasion of Safer Internet Day under the theme “Smart Tech, Safe Choices”, at the NIC Conference Hall, Mangan, today.
District Informatics Officer (NIC) Mr Sanjay Kumar delivered a brief address, highlighting the objectives and significance of today’s awareness programme. He outlined the importance of promoting safe and responsible use of digital technologies and set the context for the sessions that followed.
The programme was conducted through a live and interactive virtual video meeting, focusing on exploring the safe and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The objective of the programme was to create awareness among students, officials, and the general public about the safe and responsible use of the internet, cyber safety, and digital well-being through the virtual platform.
Following this, presentations were delivered on topics such as exploring the safe and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), cyber threats related to AI and safe practices, and the pros and cons of AI. The speakers also highlighted instances where AI has been misused to scam people, creating serious risks for individuals and organisations alike.
The participants were informed about the toll-free helpline number 1930, which has been operational for the past two years, and were apprised of the rising cases of financial losses. Emphasis was laid on UPI safety, avoiding the download of unnecessary APK files and the need to block mobile phones immediately in case of loss or theft. In this regard, participants were advised to seek help from the police or independently use the CEIR portal by entering the phone's IMEI number.
Later, an interactive discussion session was held during which participants raised various questions. These were addressed and explained in detail, ensuring that the concepts and safety measures were clearly understood by all.
Present at the programme were staff and officials from various departments.
