NGOs Brief IPR Chairperson on Tsomgo Ultra 5.0 Marathon Event
Gangtok, February 16 (IPR): Representatives from NGOs, “Serenity Home, Help Another” and “Kudum”, called on the Chairperson of the Information and Public Relations Department, Mr Ashit Rai, at Gangtok today and extended an invitation for the 5th edition of Tsomgo Ultra 5.0 scheduled to be held on March 8, 2026.
During the interaction, the representatives briefed the Chairperson on the objectives and preparations for the event and highlighted its role in promoting endurance sports, eco tourism, and community participation in the State. They informed that the high altitude marathon will feature trail running across multiple categories, including the Tsomgo Run (10 km), Tsomgo Half Marathon (21 km), 42 km category, and the Tsomgo Ultra (75 km). All categories are scheduled to commence from Ganesh Tok and will pass through challenging mountain routes in the vicinity of Tsomgo Lake.
The organisers further shared that the event is expected to attract participation from around 800 runners, including national and international athletes. This year’s edition has drawn participation from runners based in the United States. A total prize pool of ₹10 lakh has been earmarked across categories to encourage competitive participation and recognise athletic excellence.
They emphasised that the event aims to promote fitness awareness, responsible tourism, and environmental sensitivity while also providing a platform to showcase the State’s natural landscape and hospitality.
