NDMA Organises Orientation-cum-Coordination Video Conference to Enhance Disaster Preparedness
Gyalshing, 3 September (IPR): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) convened an orientation-cum-coordination video conference today at the District Administrative Centre (DAC) Gyalshing to enhance disaster preparedness and response strategies.
The meeting, chaired by Maj. Gen. Sudhir Bahl (Retd.), Consultant (ME & IRS) at NDMA, Government of India, concentrated on the Incident Response System (IRS) framework. The goal was to enhance disaster preparedness and response capabilities.
The conference was attended by Ms Rajani Sharma ADC (HQ)Gyalshing,Mr Suresh Rai ADC Gyalshing , Mr Surat Gurung ADC (Dev),Dr Narad Mani Cintury Additional Dir AH&VS Gyalshing,Mr NB Bishwakarma SDM Gyalshing,Mr NK Karki SDM Dentam,Mr Kshitij Saxena DFO(T), Ms KSC Tongden Lepcha SE Power,Mr Prasant K Karki Dy Dir (Education),Mr Ganesh Kumar Rai DPO(DDMA)along with the Nodal Officers.
During the conference, crucial elements of the IRS were discussed which included Tabletop Exercises (TTEx) and Mock Drills.
Maj. Gen. Sudhir Bahl provided an extensive overview, highlighting the role of the Incident Response Team (IRT) in disaster management. The discussion emphasized coordination among planning, logistics, and operations sections within the IRS framework.
Further, he gave an overview of its functioning, and the responsibilities of task forces and IRT members. He also advocated the use of drones and satellite imagery for assessing and analyzing disaster damage.
Following the conference, the ADC HQ undertook the necessary preparatory activities to ensure the successful execution of the Mock Drill.
She urged the Nodal Officers to ensure a successful Mock Drill, emphasising its role in both preparedness and public awareness.She also stressed that the exercise should aim to inform the public without causing unnecessary panic.
