My Bharat NSS National Sports Day 2026 – “Khel Ki Baat PM Ke Saath”

Gyalshing, 27 August 2026: NSS Unit, Sanchaman Limboo Government College (SMLGC), Aarigaon, Gyalshing, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, Regional Directorate of NSS, Guwahati, Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sikkim, and My Bharat Kendra, Gyalshing District, successfully organised “My Bharat NSS National Sports Day 2026 – Khel Ki Baat PM Ke Saath” and the “Khelo India Samvaad” programme.
The programme was organised in line with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji to build a fit, disciplined and sporting nation and to place the aspirations of youth at the centre of national development. National Sports Day commemorates the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand and promotes sports, fitness, discipline, dedication and excellence.
The programme was graced by Chief Guest Shri Rajesh Thapa, Chief Education Officer, District Education Department, Government of Sikkim, along with Prof. (Dr.) Bhakta Kunwar, Principal, SMLGC Aarigaon Gyalshing, and Guest of Honour Shri I. B. Limboo, AD Panchayat, Yangthang GPU, Gyalshing. Shri Pradeep Baisla, District Youth Officer, My Bharat Kendra, Gyalshing District, also attended the programme.
The event proudly brought together distinguished sportspersons and sports icons, including Shri Baichung Bhutia, Football Captain, Under-19 School India Team 2004, Mr Ronok Rai, National Archery Player, Miss Sarika Subba, National Archery Player, Miss Sriya Tamang, National Archery Player, Mr Sonam Zangpo Lepcha, State Basketball Player, and Miss Dolma Sherpa, National Taekwondo Player. HODs, Assistant Professors, teaching and non-teaching staff, NSS volunteers and students also participated, with around 350 participants attending the programme.
In his inspiring address, the Chief Guest Shri Rajesh Thapa encouraged young people to confidently choose their field of interest in sports, set clear goals, work towards excellence, bring pride to Sikkim and the nation, inspire future generations, and maintain health and fitness.
Principal Prof. (Dr.) Bhakta Kunwar highlighted the important role of today’s generation in building a brighter society and nation. He encouraged students to pursue education sincerely while actively participating in sports and other co-curricular activities.
A major highlight was the live virtual interaction with Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, who shared an inspiring message with youth and students across the country. The Hon’ble Prime Minister appreciated the participation of states and institutions in the National Sports Day programme and acknowledged the efforts of NSS Unit SMLGC Aarigaon Gyalshing and its Programme Officer in conducting the national-level event.
Following the interaction, the NSS Unit organised a felicitation ceremony for the Chief Guest, Principal and distinguished dignitaries, along with special felicitation of promising local “Future Stars” in sports, representing national and state-level achievements. The recognition aimed to motivate young sportspersons to dream bigger, work harder and inspire others through their dedication.
The programme was coordinated and hosted by Mr Pema Loda Lepcha, Assistant Professor-cum-Programme Officer, NSS Cell, SMLGC Aarigaon Gyalshing, who warmly welcomed all dignitaries, sportspersons, staff, volunteers and students. He expressed sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, Regional Directorate of NSS, Guwahati, Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sikkim; and My Bharat Kendra, Gyalshing District for nominating the institution and providing the golden opportunity to conduct this prestigious national-level programme.
He further expressed hope that all stakeholders would continue to work together to empower youth and contribute towards a brighter society and stronger nation, guided by the NSS motto: “Not Me But You.”
The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Dilli Ram Sharma, while Master of Ceremonies Mr Yadav Sharma, NSS Volunteer, SMLGC, conducted the proceedings.
