Monthly NCORD-NMBA meeting to strengthen measures against substance abuse held in Pakyong

Pakyong, September 28 (IPR): The monthly district-level meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD), along with the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), was chaired by District Collector, Pakyong, Ms Pari Bishnoi, in the presence of Superintendent of Police, Pakyong District, Mr Tshering Sherpa, at the conference hall of the District Administrative Centre, Pakyong, today.
The meeting reviewed the action taken on the decisions of the previous meeting, with officials and representatives from concerned departments apprising the house of the progress made and initiatives undertaken in their respective areas, including activities carried out under NMBA.
Discussions focused on key areas related to prevention, awareness, rehabilitation and enforcement, including the functioning of rehabilitation and de-addiction centres, Nasha Mukt Cells, NMBA awareness programmes and school-level awareness initiatives. The house also discussed strengthening monitoring to prevent the sale of tobacco products and prohibited substances in the vicinity of educational institutions, government offices and places of worship.
The meeting further deliberated on facilitating the implementation of the Bharosa Scheme, addressing substance abuse among children and students, strengthening NGO and community participation, random testing, and measures for reducing demand and supply through enhanced coordination and intelligence gathering.
During the meeting, it was informed that trained adolescent counsellors are available to provide counselling and support to young people. The house was also apprised of ongoing enforcement and preventive measures undertaken to curb the cultivation and circulation of illicit substances in the district. Further, the house was informed that a dedicated Government rehabilitation facility for women is being established in the district, which will further strengthen rehabilitation and support services.
The meeting also discussed the need for appropriate support and treatment facilities for persons below 18 years of age affected by substance use. Discussions also covered digital autism-related concerns and the importance of counselling and sensitisation of parents to enable early support, appropriate care and a conducive environment for children.
The house stressed the need for continued coordination among the concerned departments and stakeholders, along with regular awareness, counselling and monitoring efforts to address substance abuse and strengthen preventive and rehabilitation measures in the district.
