Mock Drill on Disaster Preparedness Conducted at Salangdang, Soreng District

As per the directives of District Collector cum Chairperson DDMA (Soreng), Mr Dhiraj Subedi in regards to the disaster preparedness and education, the National Thermal and Power Corporation (NTPC), conducted a comprehensive mock drill on disaster preparedness at the Barrage site of NTPC Power Project in Salangdang, Soreng District, today.
The drill aimed to educate NTPC officials and the public on effective disaster preparedness and response strategies during natural calamities. Key activities included rescue and evacuation simulations, with active participation from relevant officials and stakeholders.
This initiative followed directives issued during the monsoon preparedness meeting earlier this month, where the DDMA Chairperson instructed all power project functionaries to organise mock drills to enhance their readiness and educate their teams on disaster management protocols.
The exercise was observed by SDM HQ, Mr Prem Kumar Subba, and DPO Disaster, Mrs Rajni Pega. Other participants included the Disaster Management Officer Poolbazar Block, NTPC AGM Technical Services, AGM Project Manager, Safety Officers (NTPC, Avir Infrastructures and Pinny), RVNL Project Manager, NTPC Medical Team, NDRF personnel (Siliguri and Pakyong units), and officials from LR&DMD, Soreng.
This mock drill underscores the district’s proactive approach to disaster preparedness, ensuring better coordination and response mechanisms in times of crisis.
