Minister attends closing ceremony of Skill Development Training on Turnwood Craft at Mangan
Mangan, May 2 (IPR):
The closing ceremony of the Skill Development Training on Turnwood Craft under the Rural Engineering and New Technology vertical of the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana was held today at the Village Administrative Centre, Ringhim Nampatam GPU. The 20-day training was organised by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Ministry of MSME, Government of India, in collaboration with Sign-In, Gangtok. A total of 40 aspiring artisans successfully completed the training.
Minister for Social Welfare and WCSCD, and Area MLA (Lachen-Mangan), Mr Samdup Lepcha attended the event as the chief guest. He was joined by SP Mangan Mr Sonam Detchu Bhutia, ADM Mangan Mr Pema Wangchen Namkarpa, BDO Mangan Mr Kailash Thapa, Former Chairman of Social Welfare Mr Nim Tshering Lepcha, Panchayat Presidents, Zilla and Ward Panchayats from Ringhim-Nampatam and Singhik-Sentam GPUs, and the trainees.
In his address, Minister Mr Samdup Lepcha congratulated the trainees for completing the training. He underscored the role of such programmes in creating employment and building local skills. He said that such efforts align with the Chief Minister’s vision of a self-reliant and progressive Sikkim. He encouraged the trainees to apply what they had learnt and said he would consult the concerned authorities to organise more such trainings.
Earlier, Training Director, KVIC, Mr Sanjeev Dey gave an overview of the training. He informed that 40 active participants had taken part. He shared that the training had been completed successfully.
The State Director of KVIC Ms Salle A Pow spoke about the schemes available under the Commission and encouraged people to benefit from them. She commended the Panchayat President and Members of Ringhim Nampatam GPU for their enthusiastic participation in the training programme and for their noble gesture of presenting basic toolkits to the trainees apart from the machine provided by the KVIC.
BDO Mangan Mr Kailash Thapa highlighted how the training had helped the local population by building capacity and enhancing livelihoods. He said that this was the first time that such an extensive training had been organised in the GPU and thanked the KVIC for the support.
Earlier, the programme began with the welcome address by Panchayat President Ringhim Nampatam GPU Mr Sherap Bhutia.
Later, Certificates were handed over to the trainees by the Minister.
Likewise, three roller machines for carpentry were also distributed to the trainees. In a noble gesture, the Gram Panchayat members of Ringhim-Nampatam distributed carpentry tool kits with essential equipment to the participants.
Also during the occasion, three Safai Mitras of the GPU were recognised for their work in waste collection, segregation, and disposal to mark Labour Day (observed on 1 May).
Additionally, Milk incentives were also distributed by the the Minister in the presence of Joint Director cum MD of the North District Milk Union, Ms Hissay D. Lepcha. The amounts were ₹1,70,208 for Ringhim Dairy Cooperative Society, ₹1,36,505 for Nampatam Dairy Cooperative Society, and ₹59,290 for Kalow Dairy Cooperative Society. The incentives will be credited directly to dairy farmers’ bank accounts through DBT. This is part of the path breaking initiative of the State Government to provide Rs. 8/- as incentive for every litre of milk supplied to the Milk Union.
