Minister Mr Tshering T Bhutia inaugurates plastic waste management unit at Labdang
Gyalshing, June 7 (IPR): Minister for Tourism & Civil Aviation, Commerce & Industries, and Food Processing Departments, and Yuksam-Tashiding MLA, Mr Tshering T Bhutia, today inaugurated the newly set-up Plastic Waste Management Unit (PWMU) at Labdang village under Yuksam-Tashiding constituency, Gyalshing District.
The unit, constructed under the Rural Development Department as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission initiative of the State Government, was established to facilitate the reuse and proper management of plastic waste from the village, preventing environmental harm caused by improper disposal.
After the inauguration, the Minister inspected the facility and commended the Gram Panchayat and RDD for the initiative. "Such initiatives are crucial to mitigating the negative impact of plastic waste. Proper segregation, reuse, and utilisation are important. Such units need to be established in every village," he said.
Later in the day, Minister Bhutia also inaugurated a newly constructed house under the Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana (SGAY) at Labdang. Addressing the villagers, he highlighted the various welfare schemes being implemented by the Government of Sikkim under the dynamic leadership of Hon'ble Chief Minister Prem Singh Golay, and emphasized the significance of the SGAY scheme, which aims to provide safe and permanent housing to economically weaker sections of society. The Minister formally handed over the house to the beneficiary family and extended his congratulations.
During his visit, Minister Bhutia also inspected several ongoing infrastructure development projects in the village, including homestays being constructed under the Mega Homestay Project of the Tourism & Civil Aviation Department. He directed concerned officials to ensure the timely completion of all projects.
BDO-Chongrang Ms Geeta Kumari Gurung, Panchayat President (Kongri-Labdang GPU) Mr BB Gurung, Civil Engineers from RDD, Panchayat members, and locals were present on the occasion.
