Middle Sankhu Panchayat (Dentam) Graces Sensitisation Programme and Implementation of PPIS
Gyalshing, April 4: A sensitisation programme on the Pig Production Incentive Scheme (PPIS) for the 03 Maneybung Dentam Constituency was successfully conducted today at the Conference Hall of Alpine Cheese Plant, Dentam, Gyalshing District, in accordance with approved Government guidelines.
The scheme aims to promote pig farming, enhance pork production, and improve the livelihoods of rural farmers. Eligible beneficiaries were selected after thorough verification of their piggery farms.
The programme was graced by Mr Prakash Subba, Panchayat Member of Middle Sankhu, as the Chief Guest, along with Ms Rajyashree Limboo, Vice Panchayat President of Sardung-Lungzick GPU, that had the presence of Mr BB Limboo, Additional Director-cum-District Head, Gyalahing District.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Mr Basu Dev Sharma, followed by a presentation on PPIS by Dr Noor Saknim Lepcha. Farmers were sensitised on key aspects of the scheme, including eligibility criteria, benefits, and responsibilities.
Dr Norleen Pandhi Lepcha created awareness on livestock insurance under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) for pigs and small ruminants such as Sheep and Goats. Farmers were encouraged to avail themselves of the subsidized insurance scheme implemented by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Government of Sikkim.
The importance of regular vaccination and timely deworming was emphasised to prevent diseases and improve productivity. Farmers were also advised to adopt scientific, clean, and hygienic pig farming practices for sustainable and profitable livestock management.
The Additional Director-cum-District Head addressed the gathering, encouraging farmers to actively engage in agriculture and allied sectors. He urged beneficiaries to utilise government schemes effectively and to invest the PPIS incentives in upgrading their farms with improved pig breeds.
A total of 16 beneficiaries from the 03 Maneybung Dentam Constituency were covered under the scheme. Confirmation letters were distributed by Mr BB Limboo. The total incentive amount of Rs.2,40,000 will be transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ Bank accounts through DBT upon completion of all necessary formalities.
