Message of Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim on International Day of Yoga

Date: 21-Jun-2020
Today we are observing the 6th International Day of Yoga and the theme for this year is "Yoga at home and Yoga with family".
An initiative of the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi which was approved by the UN General Assembly in 2014 and has since been celebrated every year on 21st June.
Yoga is one of the oldest sciences of the world which originated in India. The word " Yoga" is derived from the Sanskrit word "Yuj" meaning "to join" or "unite". It embodies the unity of mind and body, thought and actions, restraint and fulfilment and a holistic approach to the health and wellbeing, a way of living that aims towards a harmony between mind and body.
It is a misconception that only saints and sages can lead a yogic life. Any individual can make his life pleasant by following the yogic way of life irrespective of his age, occupation, religion, sex, caste and creed.
Yoga is a disciplined practise to integrate into one’s lifestyle which help bust stress and anxiety through pranayamas, meditations and asanas especially during this time of pandemic when global health crisis has had a deep impact on the way we perceive the world around us and the change it has brought in our daily lives.
Thus, Yoga being an invaluable gift of India's ancient traditions, I am happy to see our people adopting it in their daily lives which requires no equipment and can be practised in the comfort of our home.
Once again, on the occasion of International Yoga Day, I urge the people to adopt this practice to bring a positive change in their lifestyle leading to a healthy, wealthy and a harmonious society
