Meeting on Celebration of District-Level 80th Independence Day Held at DAC Rabdentse
Gyalshing, July 23 (IPR): A preparatory meeting regarding the celebration of the District-Level 80th Independence Day was held today at the Conference Hall (DDMA), District Administrative Centre (DAC), Rabdentse, under the chairmanship of the District Collector-cum-District Magistrate, Gyalshing, Mr Tenzing D. Denzongpa.
The meeting was attended by the Superintendent of Police, Gyalshing, Mr Tshering Sherpa; Additional District Collector, Gyalshing, Mr Suresh Rai; Chief Medical Officer, Gyalshing District Hospital, Dr Namgay Bhutia; Divisional Forest Officer (Territorial), Mr Jigme Tsewang; Additional Director, Agriculture Department, Mr Karma Sherpa; Additional Director, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Mr B. B. Subba; Additional Director, Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Ms N. L. Bhutia; Heads of Departments and senior officers from various line departments, officers from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), OSD to the MLA, Yangthang Constituency, representatives from NHIDCL, banks, and other stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, the District Collector emphasised the significance of celebrating the 80th Independence Day with patriotism, dignity and active public participation. He called upon all departments to work in close coordination to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the district-level celebration.
The District Collector expressed his gratitude to the MLA Yangthang Constituency and the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sikkim, Gangtok for permitting the use of Kyongsa Stadium as the venue for the district-level celebration. He directed the concerned departments to ensure proper maintenance of the stadium, particularly the playing surface and surrounding infrastructure. He stressed the need to keep the entire premises clean and well-maintained throughout the preparations and the event.
The District Collector further directed all concerned departments to make timely preparations in their respective areas of responsibility, including venue arrangements, security, traffic management, sanitation, health services, cultural programmes, parade coordination, hospitality and other logistical arrangements. He stressed the importance of maintaining discipline, ensuring public safety, and providing all necessary facilities for participants and visitors.
During the meeting, department-wise responsibilities were discussed and assigned to ensure effective coordination among all stakeholders. Various suggestions regarding the conduct of the celebration, cultural performances, participation by educational institutions, emergency response arrangements, and overall event management were also deliberated upon.
The house was informed that parade rehearsals will be conducted from 9 August to 13 August 2026 at Kyongsa Stadium in preparation for the district-level Independence Day celebration.
The meeting concluded with an appeal by the District Collector to all departments and stakeholders to extend their full cooperation and commitment towards making the District-Level 80th Independence Day celebration a memorable, dignified and successful occasion.
