Meeting of DEO with Political Parties, Soreng District
Soreng, April 11 (IPR): In accordance to the directive of the Election Commission of India (ECI) a second monthly meeting for the month of April of the DEO (District Election Officer), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and with the political party representatives were held in the District Administrative Centre at Soreng chaired by Mr Dhiraj Subedi (DC Soreng) in the presence of DR Bista (ADC I), Mr Santosh Kumar Allay (ADC II) and Ms Sakchum Lepcha (SDM Soreng).
The following points were discussed during the meeting:
1. PwDs (Persons with Disabilities) Camp:
Discussion on organising special camps for PwDs on 19th April at CHC Soreng, Ensuring identification, facilitation, and provision of necessary assistance to PwD voters, Encouragement to appoint volunteers for support on polling day. A special Aadhaar Enrollment and update desk will also be set up to assist PwDs in obtaining or updating their Aadhaar details.
2. Rationalisation of Polling Stations:
To raise and discuss the matter at the upcoming Gram Sabha meetings, suggestions for merging, shifting, or creating new polling stations based on population or accessibility.
3. Electoral Roll Updates and Voter Registration:
Review of the ongoing/upcoming revision activities, focus on inclusion of first-time voters, women, senior citizens, and marginalised communities. Cancellation of deceased voters’ enrolment to be done.
4. Appointment of Booth Level Agents (BLAs):
Request to political parties to appoint BLAs for each polling booth, importance of BLA involvement in roll verification and election preparedness.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) and Citizen Action Party (CAP) Sikkim along with officials from the Election Cell (Soreng district).
