Medhavi Skills University Organises Prarambh-2026 Foundation Programme at Manan Kendra
Gangtok, August 12 (IPR): Medhavi Skills University (MSU) organised the inaugural ceremony of ‘Prarambh-2026’, the foundation programme for the 2026 batch, at Manan Kendra, Gangtok, today.
The programme was attended by the Director General of Police, Sikkim Police, Mr Akshay Sachdeva, as the Chief Guest, and the Deputy Inspector General, Sashastra Seema Bal (Sector Headquarters), Mr A Hemochandra, as the Guest of Honour.
The programme commenced with an interactive session titled ‘Building Bonds’, a community policing initiative of Sikkim Police, conducted by DGP, Sikkim Police, Mr Akshay Sachdeva, along with officers and personnel of Sikkim Police.
During the session, Mr Akshay Sachdeva sensitised the students to various crimes and social challenges prevalent in society, including substance abuse and its illegal distribution, crimes against women and children, cybercrimes, and other emerging threats. He also briefed the gathering on relevant legal provisions, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act (SADA), and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He concluded by encouraging the students to uphold responsible citizenship and contribute to the upliftment, safety and progress of society.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Inspector General, Sashastra Seema Bal (Sector Headquarters), Mr A Hemochandra, spoke about the history and role of the Sashastra Seema Bal. He commended Medhavi Skills University for offering degree and diploma programmes in skill-based disciplines alongside vocational training.
Emphasising the importance of Knowledge, Skill and Attitude (KSA), he stated that these three components form the foundation of effective training and professional development. He appreciated the university’s focus on industry-aligned and job-oriented education, which enables students to become better prepared for the workforce. He further observed that skill-based learning is particularly relevant for the present generation, as it equips young people with the adaptability required to respond to rapidly changing industry and societal needs.
Director, ICAR-National Research Centre for Orchids, Dr Shankar Prasad Das, in his address, provided an overview of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and its role in advancing agricultural research and education in the country. He highlighted the importance of agriculture, horticulture, fisheries and animal sciences in ensuring food security, technological advancement and rural development.
Dr Shankar Prasad Das emphasised the need for continuous skilling in the agricultural sector to enhance productivity, improve efficiency and enable farmers and professionals to respond effectively to changing supply and demand. He encouraged the students to view skill development as an important pathway towards self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods, while contributing meaningfully to the development of the nation.
Founder and Chancellor, Medhavi Skills University, Mr Pravesh Dudani, in his address, spoke about the vision behind establishing the university and the importance of creating an education system that prepares young people not only with academic qualifications but also with practical skills, professional competence and the right attitude. He emphasised the need to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the world of work and encouraged the students to make the most of the opportunities provided by the university.
Pro-Chancellor and Co-Founder, Medhavi Skills University, Mr Kuldip Sharma, in his address, highlighted the university’s objective of integrating holistic and skill-based learning with academic education, moving beyond the conventional approach of merely providing degree certificates.
He emphasised that MSU focuses on industry-aligned and job-ready education, with a core mission of bridging the gap between academia and industry. He highlighted the university’s distinctive model of integrating practical skills and real-world exposure into academic programmes, with curricula developed in close collaboration with industry partners to ensure relevance, future-readiness and alignment with evolving industry requirements.
Mr Kuldip Sharma further stated that on-the-job training is an integral component of the university’s three-year degree programmes. Through this model, students gain practical workplace experience and receive a stipend during their training, helping them develop professional competencies and facilitating a smoother transition from education to employment.
He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to providing world-class, skill-based education while fostering the overall development of students as professionals, leaders and responsible contributors to society.
The programme also featured cultural performances, a briefing on on-the-job learning, experience-sharing sessions by students, and presentations on the university’s clubs, societies, sports and National Service Scheme (NSS) activities. The day’s programme concluded with a band performance by students of Medhavi Skills University.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Pro-Chancellor and Co-Founder, Medhavi Skills University, Mr Kuldip Sharma, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Medhavi Skills University, Dr Ashwini Kumar.
