Massive Landslide Hits Rimbi; Officials Assess Situation and Assure Immediate Relief
Gyalshing, September 25 (IPR): The landslide at Rimbi in Gyalshing District has further escalated and entered the village last night, further affecting the village and surrounding areas. The active landslide occurred on August 13, 2026. The landslide has reportedly taken a new diversion, entering the village and affecting several households.
No casualties or loss of human life have been reported so far, but two houses have been completely washed out. However, total damage caused to property and livestock shall be further assessed as soon as the relief team is able to enter the village, pertaining to the weather conditions.

Bhutia, along with Mr Rinzing Chewang Bhutia, IAS, Secretary-cum-Relief Commissioner, Revenue and Disaster Management Department, District Collector, Gyalshing, Mr Tenzing D. Denzongpa; Additional SP, Police Department, Gyalshing District, Mr Sonam Wangdi Bhutia; ADC (Development) Mr Surat Gurung; ADC (HQ) Mr Suresh Rai; SDM Yuksam, Mr. Jigme Bhutia; Panchayat President Timbrong GPU, Mr. Mangal Rai; BDO Yuksam Mr. Sanman Limboo; DE Roads and Bridges, Mr. Santosh Singh; DPO Gyalshing Mr. Ganesh Kumar Rai; DIO Gyalshing, Rajen Tamang; OSDs, officials from Forest Department, Power Department, Police Department, Health Department and Jawans from 72nd Bn SSB Yuksam and officials from other various line departments paid visit to the affected area today to assess the situation.
During the visit, the officials interacted with the affected families and members of the general public and took stock of the ground situation and immediate requirements. Immediate Relief Measures shall be provided to all affected families. Relief camps have been setup and relief measures are being undertaken.
The Secretary-cum-Relief Commissioner assured that immediate relief assistance would be provided to all affected families as per the applicable provisions and norms. The administration is also making arrangements for short-term relief and necessary support, while properly facilitated relief camps will be provided for affected families wherever required.
Minister-cum-Area MLA Mr Tshering T. Bhutia assured the affected families of all necessary support from the State Government. He stated that the Chief Minister Government of Sikkim has been apprised of the situation and have assured all necessary assistance from the State Government.
The Minister also urged residents to remain vigilant and advised the public to avoid unnecessary movement during night hours, particularly in view of the prevailing landslide situation.
Officials also took visit of the designated relief camp during the field visit and reviewed the arrangements being made for the affected families.
A press conference was also held by the concerned Secretary-cum-Relief Commissioner, during which the current situation and relief measures being undertaken by the administration were briefed to the media.
The district administration continues to closely monitor the situation and has advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and follow the instructions issued by the authorities.
