Mass Cleanliness Drive Held in Namchi as Part of National Unity Day Observance

Namchi, 12 November (IPR): As part of the ongoing observance of National Unity Day, the District Administration Namchi, in association with My Bharat Kendra Namchi, organised a mass cleanliness drive in and around Namchi town today.
The cleanliness drive witnessed active participation from a wide range of dignitaries and community members. Among those present were Area MLA Namchi–Singhithang Constituency Mr Satish Chandra Rai, Advisor (Panchayati Raj) Ms Rama Tamang, Chairperson Namchi Municipal Council Mr Ganesh Rai, Chairperson Sikkim Youth Skill Development Board Mr Basant Yonzon, APS to HCM Namchi Mr Bishnu Prasad Sharm, DC Namchi Ms Anupa Tamling, ADC (HQ) Mr Subash Ghimirey, ADC Namchi Ms Trisang Tamang, SDM (HQ) Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia,  SDM Namchi Mr Wangdi Sherpa, along with HoOs, Officers and staff from various line departments.
The event also saw participation from members of All Sikkim Government Drivers’ Association, Namchi District Football Association, Namchi Local Taxi Drivers' Association, NGOs and local residents.
At the outset, the Area MLA, Mr Satish Chandra Rai, commended the Administration’s initiative for taking up such a noble cause. He urged citizens from all walks of life to embrace cleanliness as a daily habit, thereby contributing towards making Namchi a model town for cleanliness and civic responsibility.
Then, after the participants were divided into groups, each was assigned to specific locations and routes for the cleanliness drive. The teams actively engaged in clearing plastic and other waste materials from public areas, while also spreading awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
The Namchi Municipal Council (NMC) ensured proper disposal of all collected waste following the drive.
It is worth mentioning that this cleanliness drive formed part of the activities finalised during a meeting held on 5th November, under the supervision of the District Core Committee. The Committee was constituted to oversee preparations for the District-Level Padhyatras organised to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, celebrated as National Unity Day.
