Mangan Police Station launches cyber awareness drive in Dzongu

Date: 07-Apr-2026
Mangan, April 7: The Mangan Police Station launched a month-long cyber crime awareness campaign on Monday from BAC Passingdang, Dzongu, aimed at sensitising government employees and the public to emerging digital threats and promoting safe online practices.
Station House Officer PI Prashant Rai, who led the inaugural session, outlined prevalent cyber offences, including digital arrest scams, online gambling frauds and fraudulent loan schemes. He emphasised the importance of prompt reporting through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (Helpline No. 1930).
Mr. Narendra Gurung, Branch Manager of HDFC Bank (Mangan), also addressed the gathering and informed participants about official banking helplines (1600 and 1400) for customer support and grievance redressal. He further highlighted the provision of zero-liability protection in cases of cyber fraud, subject to timely reporting.
The campaign will cover remote areas of Dzongu, given the growing complexity and incidence of cyber-related offences, with a focus on strengthening awareness and promoting responsible digital behaviour.
The initiative is in line with the vision of the Director General of Police, Sikkim, to build a cyber-aware society.
Mr. Mahendra Tamang, Block Development Officer, Passingdang BAC, was acknowledged for facilitating logistical arrangements and ensuring active participation in the programme.
