Maneybong-Dentam MLA Mr Sudesh Kumar Limboo attends Independence Day celebrations at Yuksam.
Gyalshing, August 11 (IPR): The 11th day of the ongoing Constituency-level Independence Day celebrations at Thikoong Mensolong Government Senior Secondary School Playground Yuksam under Gyalshing district were marked by various events and festivities.
Mr Sudesh Kumar Limboo Maneybong-Dentam MLA and Advisor to the Tourism Department, attended as the Chief guest.
Upon his arrival, Mr. Limboo was warmly received by the brass band of Thikoong Mensolong Government Senior Secondary School and escorted to the stage by members of the Independence Day Celebration Committee (IDCC) Yuksam-Tashiding. He was accompanied by esteemed guests from Maneybong-Dentam constituency including Mr Madhusudan Sharma former Additional Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Ms Tarmit Lepcha Zilla Panchayat member and others.
Also present were Mr. Ds Limboo, Zilla Adakshya Gyalshing, Mr. Yogen Syangden SDM Yuksam, IDCC President Mr. Sonam Palden Denzongpa, Mr. Palchen Yongda Government contractor as well as the branch manager and staff from Yuksam branch of State Bank of Sikkim (SBS) and other local dignitaries.
In his address, MLA Sudesh Kumar Limboo praised the leadership of Yuksam-Tashiding MLA and Minister of State Tourism & civil aviation and commerce and industries,Mr. Tshering T. Bhutia. He lauded the minister’s dedication and visionary approach to the development of the region, noting that Yuksam is a significant tourism hub with immense potential for growth.
Mr. Limboo urged the educated youth of the region to capitalize on the opportunities in the tourism sector by pursuing entrepreneurship. He also commended the IDCC Yuksam-Tashiding for its environmental conservation initiatives and expressed his gratitude for being invited to such a grand and meaningful event.
As a token of appreciation, the IDCC Yuksam-Tashiding presented MLA Sudesh Kumar Limboo with a shawl and an appreciation letter.
The day’s events included the first quarter-final match of the Late Pema Wangchuk Denzongpa Memorial Championship Trophy, as part of the 78th Independence Day Open men's Football Tournament. The Forest Department team emerged victorious against DKSC with a score of 3-2, while Gitang FC won against Pelling United in a penalty shootout, securing a 6-4 win. Both teams have advanced to the semi-final round of the tournament.
In addition to the sports events, the celebration featured various cultural presentations by school students and local cultural troupes.
Earlier,Mr. Ds Limboo, Zilla Adakshya of Gyalshing, delivered the welcome address. He also highlighted the environmental conservation efforts and the 'Leave a Green Legacy' initiative which is a theme of Independence Day celebrations at Yuksam this year.
