Maghey Sankranti Mela 2025 concludes its Celebration

The highly anticipated Maghey Sankranti Mela 2025 concluded in a spectacular fashion after eight days of vibrant celebrations.
The event showcased an array of cultural performances, sporting activities, and numerous other programmes, marking a successful conclusion to the festive period.
The grand finale of the mela was graced by the Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang, who served as the Chief Guest, alongside Madam Krishna Rai Former MLA, as the Guest of Honour.
The event was attended by Ministers, MLAs, Chairpersons, Advisors, the DGP of Sikkim, Heads of Departments (HoDs), District Collectors (DCs), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Namchi, Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Heads of Offices (HoOs), and other esteemed dignitaries.
In his address to the gathering, the Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the personnel involved in making the event a resounding success over the eight-day period. He proposed that the Maghey Sankranti Mela be elevated to a national level, akin to the famous Hornbill Festival, to enhance its stature and recognition.
The Chief Minister highlighted the various state government schemes designed to support the citizens of Sikkim, including the CM's Discretionary Grant, CM's Educational Assistance Scheme, CM's Medical Assistance Scheme, and the Sikkim Aama Sahayog Yojana. These initiatives aim to provide essential assistance to individuals according to their specific needs.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing timely support during times of need, stressing the government's responsiveness and dedication to addressing citizens' concerns promptly.
Further, the Chief Minister outlined plans to revitalise cardamom farming in the state through scientific advancements and technological integration. He also announced the launch of the ‘Mero Elaichi, Mero Dhan’ scheme, which aims to boost cardamom cultivation.
In addition, the Chief Minister called for a concerted effort towards cleanliness, urging everyone—from political leaders to the general public—to adopt and promote cleanliness practices at an individual level, with serious implementation of hygiene standards.
Looking ahead, the Chief Minister shared plans to further enhance the Maghey Sankranti Mela in the coming years. He revealed that the mela would include an alternative play area at the Rangeet riverside and a designated hub for mela activities.
Additionally, the 11th All India Chief Minister’s Gold Cup Tournament will be held next year in a renovated football stadium in Jorethang.
The Chief Minister also announced the upcoming launch of the Sikkim Cab App by the Transport Department, allowing individuals to conveniently book cabs, buses, and lodgings.
Furthermore, he revealed plans to rename the Women & Child Development Department to the Women, Child, Senior Citizens & Persons with Disabilities Welfare Department to expand its scope.
In his commitment to remain connected with the people, the Chief Minister declared that the Jan Bhet Karyakram would resume, with visits to constituencies three days a week to engage with the public directly.
During the welcoming speech, Mr Madan Cintury, MLA and Chief Patron of the Maghey Sankranti Mela 2025, expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister for his visionary leadership, which played a crucial role in the success of the mela.
He also highlighted Jorethang’s future potential as a sports and business hub, owing to its strategic location between Soreng and Gyalshing districts.
