MSME-DFO Gangtok Observes International Yoga Day
Gangtok, June 21 (IPR): The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises-Development and Facilitation Office (MSME-DFO), Gangtok under the Ministry of MSME, Government of India, observed International Yoga Day on the theme ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’ here in Deorali, today.
Director, MSME, Commerce and Industries Department, Mr Ravi Kumar, who attended the event as the chief guest, in his address, highlighted the global recognition of yoga as India’s gift to the world.
He stated that, under the vision of Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi, yoga had gained worldwide acceptance as a symbol of India’s culture, values, and traditions.
He added that yoga was not just beneficial for physical health but also for mental well-being and immunity, as seen during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Emphasising the benefits of regular practice, he encouraged everyone to dedicate at least half an hour daily to yoga or mind-body exercises, especially in today's fast-paced lifestyle.
Assistant Director, MSME, Mr Nirmal Chowdhary, spoke on the theme of health as wealth in its mental, physical, and emotional dimensions.
He further informed that the nationwide celebrations are being held across nearly one lakh centres, including at homes, reaffirming the mass relevance of the practice.
He observed that people often neglect their health due to busy routines and suggested that even a small daily investment of time in yoga could lead to noticeable improvement in well-being.
The yoga session was conducted by Mr Raghvendra Singh, Head Constable and instructor from 13 Battalion, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), who guided the participants through a series of yoga asanas and breathing techniques.
The programme was also attended by Assistant Director, MSME, Ms Nisha Rani, and witnessed active participation from officials and staff of the MSME-DFO, who shared pledge to embrace the ancient Indian practice of yoga as a way of life to promote holistic well-being and mental resilience.
