MLA Ms Pamin Lepcha Assesses Road Damage and Public Inconvenience at Barapathing
Pakyong, August 18 (IPR):
MLA Gnathang-Machong and Advisor Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department, Ms Pamin Lepcha, carried out an inspection of the road connectivity at Barapathing village today. The road had been severely damaged and washed away by a landslide triggered due to incessant rainfall.
The MLA was accompanied by SDM Pakyong, Mr Dak Man Subba, RO/AD Land Revenue Department, Mr Kiran Chettri, Panchayat members, and officials from the Land Revenue Department.
During the inspection, Ms Lepcha interacted with officials of Nalanda Engicon Private Limited, the construction agency, and sought details on possible alternatives for public movement in the affected area. She enquired about the current workforce, the challenges caused by the road disruption, and highlighted the difficulties faced by the general public and students. She also stressed the need to prioritise safety and ensure that locals have accessible routes for travel.
The MLA directed the agency to remain focused on this vulnerable stretch and to carry out urgent works on priority. Considering the present condition, vehicular movement is not possible; however, the MLA instructed that pedestrian movement must be facilitated by Nalanda Engicon Private Limited. The company assured that necessary assistance will also be extended in case of emergencies.
Also, keeping in view the safety of students, it was decided that classes would be conducted in their respective localities until the road is restored for safe movement.
As per the agency, the roadwork will be fully completed after the monsoon season, as the rainfall has currently hindered major construction activities. Meanwhile, alternative arrangements for the general public have been put in place.
