Literary activities mark “Pre-Tendong Lho Rum Faat” Celebration in Gyalshing District
Gyalshing, July 31 (IPR): A district-level literary event was held at the auditorium of Sanchaman Limboo Government College, Aarigoan, Gyalshing today as part of the pre-celebration of 'Tendong Lho Rum Faat', 2025.
The event was organised by the Gyalshing district wing of the Renjyong Mutanchi Ringmom Kurmom (RMRK), a literary organisation of the Lepcha community. The celebration witnessed active participation from students representing over fourteen schools across the district, along with various Lepcha community organisations.
'Tendong Lho Rum Faat' is an important festival of the indigenous Lepcha community.
The programme was graced by Advisor to the Hon'ble Chief Minister Mr GM Lepcha as the Chief Guest. Advisor to the State Medicinal Plants Board Mr NB Limboo attended as the Guest of Honour. Other special guests included OSD to Tourism and Civil Aviation Department Mr Mingma Lepcha, OSD to the Rural Development Department Mr Krishna Lepcha and RMRT President Dawcho Lepcha.
Also in attendance were President of RMRK Gyalshing District Mr Pema Loda Lepcha, General Secretary of RMRT Gyalshing Mr Gyalpo Lepcha, executive members of RMRT and RMRK, Lepcha language teachers and students from various schools.
The literary activities included rhymes, poems, and a quiz competition in the Lepcha language, offering a platform for students to connect with their linguistic and cultural roots. Selected winners from the district-level competition will participate in the State-level Tendong Lho Rum Faat celebration scheduled to be held in Gangtok on August 3-8.
Chief Guest Mr GM Lepcha, in his brief address, commended the efforts of RMRK for organising the educational event, stating that such programmes greatly benefit students by enhancing their knowledge of language and literature.
He further highlighted the importance of language in maintaining community identity and emphasized the role of youth in its preservation. He also highlighted various welfare schemes introduced by the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, aimed at supporting the preservation and promotion of the cultural and linguistic heritage of all communities in Sikkim.
Earlier in the programme, the President of RMRK Gyalshing district provided an brief overview of the event and its objectives.
The event also featured cultural performances by students from Sanchaman Limboo Government College and Government Secondary School, Milling. The event concluded with the distribution of participation certificates to the student participants.
