Khet Bachao Abhiyan Conducted at Ringhim Nampatam GPU, Mangan Block
Mangan, June 8: The Department of Agriculture successfully conducted the Khet Bachao Abhiyan at Ringhim Nampatam GPU as part of its month-long campaign aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture, soil health management, and climate-resilient farming practices among farmers.
The programme was graced by Hon'ble Zilla Panchayat Member Mrs. Pinkiela Penchungpa, Hon'ble Panchayat President Mr. Sherap Bhutia, BDO, Mangan, Mr. Kailash Thapa, KVK SMS (Soil Science) Mr. Palden Bhutia, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department, Mr. Pranit Gurung, along with Panchayat Members and local farmers.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Director Mr. Pranit Gurung highlighted the significance of the Vibrant Village Programme, which aims to strengthen rural livelihoods and agricultural development in border villages through improved infrastructure, modern farming technologies, and enhanced farmer support services. He emphasized the importance of protected cultivation for increasing productivity, minimizing crop losses, and ensuring year-round vegetable production. He also distributed agricultural inputs including vegetable seeds, neem-based biopesticides, and pheromone traps. Detailed information was provided on the effective use of these inputs for eco-friendly pest management, reduction of chemical pesticide use, and promotion of safe and sustainable crop production.
KVK SMS (Soil Science) Mr. Palden Bhutia elaborated on the objectives of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan, stressing the need for maintaining soil fertility, adopting integrated nutrient management practices, and encouraging farmers to embrace scientific and sustainable agricultural methods for long-term productivity.
Hon'ble Zilla Panchayat Member Mrs. Pinkiela Penchungpa appreciated the efforts of the Agriculture Department in reaching out directly to farmers and creating awareness on sustainable agriculture. She encouraged farmers to actively participate in government initiatives and make effective use of the technologies and inputs being provided.
Hon'ble Panchayat President Mr. Sherap Bhutia emphasized the importance of community participation in protecting agricultural land and preserving the farming tradition of the region. He urged farmers to adopt modern yet environmentally responsible agricultural practices.
BDO Mangan Mr. Kailash Thapa commended the Agriculture Department for organizing such awareness programmes and highlighted the importance of convergence among departments to strengthen rural livelihoods, food security, and sustainable agricultural development.
The programme concluded with an interactive session where farmers shared their concerns and received technical guidance from the officials and experts present.
