Joint inspection was conducted by the Food and Civil Supplies Department Namchi
Namchi, July 07 (IPR):
In response to the growing concerns regarding health and food safety, a joint inspection was conducted by the Food and Civil Supplies Department Namchi, the Health and Family Welfare Department, the SDM Office Ravangla, Excise Department and the Urban Development Department at Ravangla under Namchi District, today.
The inspection was led by the District Civil Supplies Officer Namchi Mr Tenzing Bhutia, accompanied by SDM Ravangla Mr Wangyal Sherpa, Food Safety Officer Dr Shilpa Mukhia, AD UDD Ravangla Ms Alisha Basnet, Officer Incharge (Excise) Ravangla Mr Sonam Wangyal Bhutia, ASI Ravangla (Police) Mr Dik Bahadur Pradhan and Mr Gaudhan Rai, Food Inspector Namchi Ms Neema Tamang along with Panchayat members, Bazar Committee members, and field staff from the relevant departments.
The inspection involved a thorough examination of various Fair Price Shops (FPSs), local hotels, bakeries, fast food establishments, and meat shops. The purpose of the inspection was to identify any violations related to the sale of expired goods, the hygiene management of food preparation, and other safety issues.
During the inspection, several expired items, including fire extinguishers, were seized and taken into custody by the Food and Civil Supplies, and Food Safety Cell under the Health and Family Welfare Departments, which will take further action against the offenders.
During the inspection, the DCSO also informed various shop owners regarding the regulations and guidelines for the purchase and distribution of goods and essential commodities.
Additionally, the DCSO urged the proprietors about the proper use and renewal of fire extinguishers and encouraged hotel and fast food owners to utilize commercial LPG cylinders in their operations.
Further, he also engaged with customers and aware them about how to check expiration dates and the details of food manufacturing in bakeries. Inaddition, he advised the public not to purchase any bakery items that lack manufacturing detail tags.
During the course of the inspection, several hotels and fast-food establishments were found to be using domestic LPG cylinders and storing expired food items. Accordingly, warning was issued to the respective proprietors. Under the directive of the DCSO Namchi, all expired items that were seized have been handed over to the UDD Ravangla, for appropriate disposal as per established protocols.
It may be mentioned here that the Fair Price Shops, Hotels and fast food establishments found in violation of various rules and regulatory guidelines have been summoned to appear before the Food Safety Cell under the Department of Health and Family Welfare for further necessary action as deemed appropriate.
