International Women’s Day Observed at Bhaichung Stadium, Namchi

Namchi, 8 March (IPR): To commemorate International Women’s Day, a district-level women’s sports meet was jointly organised by the Sports & Youth Affairs Department in collaboration with MY Bharat Kendra Namchi, KIC Namchi and STC-SAI Namchi at Bhaichung Stadium, Namchi, today.
Vice-Chairman Namchi Municipal Council (NMC) Ms Sabita Tamang graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She was accompanied by Zilla Panchayat Mickhola Ms Binita Rai, NMC Councillor Ms Mamta Kalikotay, and Executive Councillor Ms Nima Choden Lepcha as special guests.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, several women achievers were honoured with mementoes in recognition of their accomplishments:
• Ms Yashika Rai – International Boxer
• Ms Susmita Rai – National Referee
• Ms Pema Laki Bhutia – Boxing Trainer
• Ms Aanchal Chettri – MY Bharat Volunteer
• Ms Supriya Rai – MY Bharat Volunteer
One of the highlights of the programme was the friendly match between women’s football match played between Kamarang FC and the Sports Department, in which Kamarang FC emerged victorious with a score of 2–0.
The sports meet also included 100-metre, 200-metre and 400 metre races, followed by activities such as tug of war, passing the ball, and archery.
This was followed by a boxing match held at the Boxing Hall Plaza and a Taekwondo match conducted at STC SAI, Namchi.
The event concluded on a successful note, with the Chief Guest presenting gold, silver, and bronze medals along with Certificates of Merit to the winners and participants.
Also present on the occasion were Deputy Director of the Sports & Youth Affairs Department Mr Basant Pradhan, who served as the overall in-charge of the event, District Programme Coordinator of MY Bharat Namchi Mr B. S. Mallick, STC-SAI Namchi In-charge Mr Rupen Pradhan, along with staff members of the Sports & Youth Affairs Department and participants.
