Inter Sikkim Diwali Football Tournament 2025 kicks off at Bojeytar Ground, Pakyong
Pakyong, October 12 (IPR): The Inter Sikkim Diwali Football Tournament 2025 commenced with the Minister for Education, Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Law Department and Parliamentary Affairs Department cum MLA Namcheybong, Mr Raju Basnet inaugurating the event at Bojeytar Ground, Kartok, Pakyong, today.
The tournament is being organised by GAMBOS Pakyong under the chief patronage of MLA cum Advisor for Social Welfare Department and Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department, Mrs Pamin Lepcha. The event commemorates 50 years of Sikkim’s statehood and aims to spread the message of a ‘Nasha Mukt Sikkim’. The tournament will continue with daily matches until November 2.
As part of the opening day, two matches were played: Pakyong United Veteran faced Firebird SC, and UDFC competed against Whistle Warriors. The tournament features participation by 39 teams representing various regions. To further enhance the competitive spirit, the winners will be awarded a cash prize of one lakh fifty thousand rupees, while the runners-up will receive one lakh rupees. The opening ceremony also had cultural performances by Parakha and Sumin groups.
Also present were Chairman, Commerce and Industries Department, Ms Nim Chiki Sherpa; Panchayat President, Namcheybong GPU, Mrs Sakila Rai; OSD to MLA Namcheybong constituency, Mr Hari Rizal; OSD to MLA Gnathang Machong constituency, Mr M.B. Gurung; DFO (T), Mr SP Bhutia, panchayat members and members of the public.
