Inclement weather in South Sikkim has caused series damages of property

Namchi, 19th October: Inclement weather in South Sikkim has caused series of damages ranging from crops, landed property and private houses. Major damages have occurred at Tirikhola, Rong under Namchi Block.
Relief materials have been provided to the victims and they have been asked to shift to safer location for few days considering the weather forecast for few more days. Further, 25 no's of vehicles (Tourist) were reportedly stuck at Melli Manpur stretch have been safely rescued and they have crossed the Melli Check Post. The Police personnel also helped in clearing the road.
Further 30 - 40 no's of vehicles are still stuck near Melli. Road clearance is underway despite the slide continuing.
The District Collector (South) Mr. M. Bharani has directed the concerned SDMs,Revenue Surveyors to submit report of damages earliest by 3:00 pm tomorrow.
Further road connectivity has been badly hampered. Wok - Namchi is completely blocked. Earlier in the day Namthang - Namchi road via Bhanjyang was blocked at Namchi View Point which has been cleared. Road was also blocked at Narak Johra. The road has now been made trafficable. Jorethang to Namchi is also blocked at several stretches as well as the Namchi - Melli NH 710 blocked at several stretches.
