Inauguration of First Plastic Waste Management Unit in Dzongu
BAC, Passingdan | 31st March 2026: A significant milestone was achieved today with the inauguration of the first-ever Plastic Waste Management Unit (PWMU) at BAC Passingdang under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), Rural Development Department, Government of Sikkim. The programme was held in the gracious presence of the Honourable Minister-cum-Area MLA, Shri Pintso Namgyal Lepcha.
The event was attended by the Honourable Up-Adhakshya, Mangan District Zilla Panchayat; Chairperson, Horticulture Department; OSDs; ADC (Development); Zilla Panchayat and Panchayat representatives; State Coordinators, SBM-G; officials from State Pollution Control Board and Mangan Nagar Panchayat; Heads of Departments; NGOs; and officers and staff of BAC and GPKs.
The PWMU is a vital step towards addressing plastic waste management in Dzongu, promoting segregation at source, recycling, and scientific disposal practices. It will cater to all Gram Panchayat Units (GPUs), while also serving as a centre for awareness and sustainable waste management learning.
BAC Passingdang expresses its heartfelt gratitude to the Honourable Chief Minister of Sikkim for his visionary leadership. Special appreciation is extended to the Honourable Minister-cum-Area MLA for his constant guidance and support in making this initiative a reality.
The successful implementation of this project reflects the collective efforts of all stakeholders, Panchayats, officials, NGOs, and the community, whose dedication has made this initiative a grand success.
