Imtiaz Ali Applauds SIFF Initiative, Eyes Future Shoot in Northeast
Gangtok, March 19 (IPR): A masterclass by noted filmmaker Mr Imtiaz Ali emerged as one of the major highlights of the inaugural day at West Point Mall in Gangtok today, drawing an enthusiastic response from attendees.
During the session on ‘The Craft of Directing and Screenwriting’ moderated by the founder of the Creative Economy Forum, Ms Supriya Suri, Mr Ali shared insights into the intricacies of filmmaking and storytelling, emphasising that the process of writing begins long before putting pen to paper. He elaborated on the importance of pre-production, describing it as a crucial stage that shapes the narrative and execution of a film.
Reflecting on his own body of work, Ali highlighted the varying approaches to filmmaking, noting that projects like Rockstar required extended shooting schedules, while films such as Highway were completed in a comparatively shorter span.
He underscored his preference for a flexible, “free-rolling” style of filmmaking, stating that he does not usually adhere to any fixed pattern in his creative process.
Mr Ali also lauded the efforts of the Information and Public Relations Department, Government of Sikkim under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang and expressed appreciation for the initiative while congratulating all involved.
He remarked that one of his key motivations for attending the event in the state was to build connections in Sikkim and expressed hope to return in the future to shoot in the region. He further shared his interest in collaborating with local talent and exploring stories rooted in the Northeast, adding that he is currently considering an idea based in the region.
The filmmaker was also felicitated during the event by the Asian Anime and Manga Academy (AAMA), Pakyong.
